Özel: Solution possible if people believe in peace and brotherhood
Speaking at the Hacı Bektaş Veli commemoration ceremony, CHP chair Özgür Özel drew attention to the unresolved issues facing Alevis and Kurds, stressing that they are doing their best to ensure the healthy work of the parliamentary commission.

The Hacı Bektaş Veli commemoration was attended by CHP chair Özgür Özel, as well as DEM Party co-chair Tuncer Bakırhan and numerous politicians.
In his remarks on current developments, Özel underlined that the Alevis’ longstanding and postponed grievances remain unaddressed, and said: “Today, the issues concerning the Alevis, issues waiting for resolution, accumulated and deferred, sometimes promised and forgotten, sometimes exploited for politics, are still on the agenda.”
Referring to the ongoing commission work in Parliament, Özel emphasized that the process is not about a single political party but about the will of the people: “Parliament belongs not to a political party but to the nation. If a solution is to come, it will not be by the grace of a political party, but through the people’s faith in peace and brotherhood.”
The CHP leader noted that the 29-article democratization package they submitted to the commission last week includes proposals aimed at contributing to a resolution of the Kurdish question as well as addressing Alevis’ accumulated problems.
Özel continued: “This is our proposal. But beyond that, the commission must listen to the voices of associations, foundations, civil society organizations, and all segments of society, take their contributions, and carry out the process with an understanding rooted in peace, equality, and brotherhood. We are doing everything we can to make that happen.
