Following up on the historic appeal titled “Call for Peace and a Democratic Society” issued by Leader Abdullah Ocalan on February 27, 2025, the leader delivered another public statement in which he emphasized the continued implementation of the steps outlined in that call.

In response to Leader Ocalan’s recent call, Ibrahim Shaaban highlighted many “positive points” and noted that “the PKK has abandoned the goal of establishing a nation-state, and thus renounced the strategy of war, effectively dissolving itself. At this historic juncture, there are hopes for further progress.”

He pointed out that the ideas and visions presented by Leader Abdullah Ocalan are worthy of full trust and respect both locally among Kurds and internationally. The PKK is advancing with historic decisions that only its leader, Abdullah Ocalan, had the courage to make.

Shaaban emphasized that the establishment of a disarmament mechanism will contribute to progress in the peace process, with the voluntary end of armed struggle and a shift toward legal and democratic political engagement.

He described Leader Ocalan’s initiative as a historic victory, noting that appropriate steps and swift practical measures will be determined regarding disarmament. He affirmed that this is a genuine move forward that will be remembered in history.

Ibrahim Shaaban also noted that Leader Ocalan’s insistence on his belief in politics and societal peace, not armed struggle, and his call for everyone to adopt this principle, reflects a genuine belief in this historic transformation in the PKK’s path and a firm commitment to it.

He added, “What the PKK is currently undergoing, under Leader Abdullah Ocalan’s leadership, confirms that the party, within the framework of self-reflection, has completely moved beyond the stage of war. On the other hand, the Turkish state must engage with this new Kurdish reality and particularly with the PKK in a completely positive manner. It must reset the conflicts, take bold and parallel decisions that respect Kurdish rights, and value the PKK’s steps. True integration of Kurdish components must be achieved, with full guarantees of their rights and respect for their distinct identity.”

Shaaban concluded by saying: “In the midst of extremely complex political conditions across the region, Leader Abdullah Ocalan, driven by his historic leadership, is guiding the PKK toward peace, ending the conflict, and opening a new chapter in the lives of millions of Kurds who believe in peace
