Initiative to boost institutions, society through leader Ocalan’s Writings
The Derbasiyah city council, in collaboration with the Kongra Star, launched an initiative to organize regular reading sessions of the volumes by Leader Abdullah Ocalan, aiming to empower institutional workers and build an ethical and political society.

In a significant step aimed at empowering intellectual cadres and enhancing institutional culture, the Derbasiyah city council in Jazira Canton, in coordination with the Kongra Star, launched an initiative to hold regular reading sessions of Leader Abdullah Ocalan’s volumes, known as the “Manifesto.” This initiative is part of an extended intellectual project seeking to develop the performance of both institutions and society.
Empowerment and Building an Ethical-Political Society
The reading sessions aim to intellectually prepare administrators, council members, civil institution workers, internal security forces, and the Kongra Star members through in-depth reading and group discussions. These sessions broaden their understanding of issues related to freedom, justice, democracy, and the history of societal development.
Each session, held every 15 days, focuses on a specific volume of the “Manifesto,” fostering discussions on fundamental concepts such as “democratic society, democratic nation, sociology of freedom, and political and ethical struggle.” This creates a space for intellectual interaction, as well as personal and collective development.
Focus on the “Sociology of Freedom” Volume as a Starting Point

The reading sessions began with the volume “Sociology of Freedom.” In this context, Raziya Ibrahim, the Co-Chair of the Derbasiyah city council, explained that “the current phase, amid peace initiatives and the democratic society, requires returning to Leader Abdullah Ocalan’s thought for a deep understanding of societal structures and their historical transformations—from tribal wars to religions, capitalist ideology, and the establishment of the state, and what has befallen societies thereafter.”
She emphasized that the goal of these sessions is to strengthen the role of community institutions in addressing citizens’ issues with political and ethical awareness. She added, “Members of institutions and councils are not just employees; they are active participants in the process of building society and must have a deep understanding of the challenges people face.”
A Public Call for Reading and Building Awareness
In a related context, Raziya Ibrahim called on all components of society, especially youth, to engage in reading Leader Abdullah Ocalan’s books, stating, “Confronting the influence of capitalist ideology and building an ethical and political democratic society begins with reading, with understanding the self, society, and the historical and political reality.”
Promoting a Culture of Community Reading
The initiative is not limited to administrative cadres but aims in the future to expand to include community reading sessions in neighborhoods and educational institutions, fostering a culture of dialogue and collective awareness to address intellectual, social, and political challenges.
