DEM Party members say the Commission will hear all those affected by the conflict

DEM Party members of the Parliamentary Commission for National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy said, “All those who were victimized or negatively affected by the conflict will be heard by the commission.

The parliamentary “Commission for National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy” held its third meeting on Tuesday when members expressed their views on the commission’s function, purpose, and operation.

In a written statement, DEM Party members of the Commission, Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit, Meral Danış Beştaş, Hakkı Saruhan Oluç, Celal Fırat, and Cengiz Çiçek, provided information about the commission’s upcoming meetings next week, on the August 19 and 20.

The statement on Wednesday includes the following:

“The development and maturation of a democratic foundation for a democratic and peaceful resolution to the Kurdish question, as well as the commission’s efforts to fulfill the historic role assigned to the Parliament and make the most of this opportunity in every sense, are crucial to the success of these efforts.

Based on all the discussions and evaluations, we can say that the commission is continuing its work with a perspective that takes into account the sensitivities of all segments of society. We would like to emphasize that the parties that appointed members to the commission have a historical responsibility to build consensus within society. The achievement of social peace depends on the steps taken being inclusive and based on an understanding of the needs of the process. It is essential to act with caution and sensitivity in taking steps, avoiding falling into the trap of “us versus them.”

Next week, on Tuesday and Wednesday, hearings will be held within the scope of the pool of names and institutions to be established through the joint efforts of the parties represented in the commission. All groups that lost their loved ones, suffered, or were negatively affected by the conflict will be heard by the commission. Additionally, obtaining the views and recommendations of legal and academic circles with expertise in the legal and political framework to be established for the resolution of the conflict will be a step that facilitates the commission’s work.

Following these hearings, the commission will carry out its work on the legal reforms that need to be implemented within the framework of the process, including democratic integration. It is of great importance that proposals for legal reforms aimed at democratization and necessary for the process are discussed and concluded through comprehensive debate. The power of democratic politics and social peace can only be achieved in this way.

It is our responsibility to strengthen brotherhood on the basis of equality both locally and regionally, to establish the law of brotherhood, and to build a common future together. In this context, we maintain our belief that both our party and the other parties involved in the commission will demonstrate the necessary inclusiveness, care, and courage required by the process.”
