Call for participation in the ‘March for Peace and Democratic Society’ in Amed

The youth assemblies of the DEM Party and DBP are mobilizing for a “March for Peace and Democratic Society” and concert in Amed. The action is intended to send a signal for social self-organization and political change.

The youth organizations of the People’s Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) and Democratic Regions Party (DBP) held a press conference in Amed (tr. Diyarbakır) calling for strong participation in the “March for Peace and Democratic Society”, which will be followed by a concernt on August 14.

The starting point is the provincial headquarters of the DEM party, from where a march is planned to the town square in the central district of Kayapınar (Payas). The march will be followed by a concert featuring several artists. The event is being organized by the youth assemblies in cooperation with the “Democratic Initiative Platform” and is intended to send a signal for social self-organization and political change.

Speaking at the press conference, Spokesperson Yusuf Demir Polat referred to Abdullah Öcalan’s February 27 ‘Call for Peace and Democratic Society’ and a message to young people published by the Kurdish leader on April 4, both of which are seen as a wake-up call for a new political phase.

“This phase represents a new beginning, renewal, and self-empowerment,” said Polat. “As youth movement, we will accept this responsibility—in villages, neighborhoods, and cities. We are organizing ourselves for a democratic and just future.”

The action is also part of a campaign entitled “We insist on a socialist life – we organize ourselves with free leadership,” which has already been launched in several cities.

The Free Women’s Movement (TJA) activist Hülya Alökmen Uyanık called on young women in particular to participate in the events, which, she said are part of the social dialogue for peace and a democratic society. “Our voice counts – especially now,” she added.
