Commission unanimously adopts 12-article draft

The commission established in Parliament unanimously accepted the draft after amendments were made to the 12-article proposal.

The first meeting of the “Commission on National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy” established in Parliament has concluded. During the meeting, Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş presented a 12-article draft regarding the rules and procedures of the commission. One of the articles concerned the commission’s name. The opposition objected to this name. Following their objection, Kurtulmuş and coordinators from political parties held a special meeting.

After the meeting, some changes were made to the articles. However, the name of the commission remained unchanged.

The opposition also opposed some phrases within the 12-article draft. While no significant changes were made to the first five articles, a major change was made to Article 6. Initially, it stated: “Decisions are taken by a three-fifths majority of those attending the meeting.” This was changed to: “Decisions are taken by a three-fifths majority of the total number of members.”

In Article 7, the phrase “The commission may decide not to record minutes when deemed necessary” was changed to: “Decisions of meetings determined to be held behind closed doors are confidential.”

The revised draft was then submitted to the commission. All members of the commission voted in favor of it.

The commission meeting was adjourned and will reconvene on August 8.
