Call for freedom for Öcalan at Durham Miners’ Gala

Hundreds of Kurds attended the 139th edition of the Durham Miners’ Gala.

The 139th edition of the Durham Miners’ Gala, one of the UK’s oldest labor events, took place in a lively atmosphere with the participation of hundreds of Kurds. At the festival, Kurds living in Britain took part in the parade wearing their traditional clothing, drawing significant attention from British attendees.

The Kurdish music group Koma Çarnewa also performed at the event, adding a unique flavor to the festival with their songs. The banners carried in the parade and the traditional Kurdish dances (halay) created a vibrant visual display at the festival grounds.

Another striking aspect of the event was the call for “Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan” by British workers who took part in the celebration. Images reflecting these calls were recorded from both the parade and the festival area.

The Durham Miners’ Association has openly supported the “Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan Trade Union Campaign” since 2016.
